Nathan Ake sends message to Chelsea about Liverpool: We need to be able to handle this

The Netherlands defender has a message for his Chelsea team-mates about one of Liverpool's strengths

Nathan Ake has warned his Chelsea team-mates not to expect too much time on the ball when Antonio Conte’s side take on Liverpool at Anfield on Tuesday night.

The west London side will travel to Merseyside looking to record a third successive Premier League victory and notch up their 16th win in their last 17 top-flight games.

Chelsea lost 2-1 to Liverpool at Stamford Bridge in September when Conte’s side struggled to contend with an energetic performance from Jurgen Klopp’s players, with Dejan Lovren and Jordan Henderson getting on the score sheet.

However, Ake, unlike his Chelsea team-mates, has experience of beating Liverpool this season after the defender scored a dramatic added-time winner in a 4-3 victory over the Merseyside outfit at Bournemouth in December.

Speaking to Chelsea’s website about the experience of Liverpool at the Vitality Stadium earlier in the 2016-17 campaign, Ake had a warning for his team-mates about one of the Reds’s strengths.

“Against Liverpool you don’t have a lot of time on the ball because their pressing is so good,” said Ake.

“There are always two people around you, and we were aware of that. You need to handle that and play out of the pressing if possible because behind that there will be space.”

Chelsea are 10 points clear of Liverpool at the top of the Premier League table.
