Mark Lawrenson states prediction for Liverpool v Chelsea
The former Liverpool defender believes Jurgen Klopp's side will battle to a 1-1 draw with Chelsea on Tuesday night
Mark Lawrenson is backing Chelsea and Liverpool to play out a 1-1 draw at Anfield on Tuesday night.
The Merseyside outfit have been in woeful form in 2017 so far after managing to notch up one win in eight attempts despite ending last year on a high note thanks to a 1-0 win against Manchester City at Anfield on New Year’s Eve.
Liverpool haven’t won a Premier League fixture since beating the Citizens but face a Chelsea side that are eight points clear of second-placed Arsenal at the top of the table with 16 games to play in the title race.
Antonio Conte’s side managed to bounce back from a 2-0 loss at Tottenham Hotspur earlier this month with successive Premier League victories over Leicester City and Hull City in the past two weeks.
Speaking to BBC Sport about Liverpool’s chances of securing a much-needed win against Chelsea, Lawrenson said:
“A draw would be a great result for Chelsea because of the breathing space they have at the top and I don’t think it would be a bad one for Liverpool either.
“At the start of the season, their aim was to finish in the top four. Even if they drop points in this game I still think they have got a realistic chance of making it.”
Liverpool are in fourth place in the Premier League table and a staggering 10 points behind Chelsea.
