John Aldridge states prediction for Liverpool v Plymouth
The former Liverpool striker is tipping a home win the FA Cup third-round clash at Anfield on Sunday afternoon
John Aldridge warned Jurgen Klopp that he will need to get the balance right between youth and experience if Liverpool are to beat Plymouth in the FA Cup third round.
The Merseyside outfit entertain League Two outfit Plymouth Argyle fresh from a 2-2 draw with Sunderland at the Stadium of Light in the Premier League on Monday afternoon.
Daniel Sturridge and Sadio Mane scored either side of half-time as Liverpool squandered the chance to move to within three points of Premier League leaders Chelsea.
However, Klopp is being tipped to rest some key players for the cup clash at Anfield ahead of their League Cup semi-final clash against Southampton at St Mary’s next week.
Writing in his Liverpool Echo column, Aldridge warned Klopp to field a Liverpool side strong enough to get past the League Two outfit.
“Sunday’s FA Cup tie with Plymouth at Anfield will be a great opportunity for some of those on the fringes of the Liverpool squad,” said Aldridge.
“The likes of Alberto Moreno and Lucas Leiva need a start, while youngsters Ben Woodburn, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Ovie Ejaria should get another outing.
“Others need a rest ahead of that EFL Cup semi-final first leg with Southampton.
“The manager will know what he needs out there to ensure we get through. He did the same last year when we faced Exeter, although from what I’ve seen Plymouth are a bit better. I watched their replay with Newport County in the last round and they’ve got a couple of big, strong lads.
“It’s just a case of getting the balance right between youth and experience.”
Liverpool are in second place in the Premier League table and five points adrift of leaders Chelsea after 20 games in the 2016-17 season..
