Graeme Souness names the favourites for Man United v Liverpool
The former Liverpool captain believes Manchester United will start Sunday's clash as slight favourites
Graeme Souness believes Manchester United are slight favourites to beat Liverpool in the north-west derby at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon.
Jose Mourinho’s side have the opportunity to move to within two points of Liverpool in the title race if Manchester United can record a tenth successive win in all competitions.
The Red Devils managed to halt the Liverpool juggernaut earlier this season after Mourinho’s men left Anfield with a point after a goalless draw.
Liverpool have failed to win their last three games against Sunderland, Plymouth and Southampton over the past week or so but Klopp’s side have still collected 13 points in their last five Premier League fixtures.
The 18-time English champions are the Premier League’s leading goal-scorers after a return of 48 goals in 20 games in the 2016-17 season so far.
Speaking to Sky Sports ahead of Liverpool’s trip to Manchester United, Souness explained why Mourinho’s players have the edge heading into the bitter clash.
“They’re not getting you on the edge of your seat and thinking: ‘Wow, this is the Man United back to their heyday.’ But first thing is first, he’s got the winning mentality back, which is very important, the confidence has been built because of winning games,” Souness said.
“Liverpool have got it all on at the weekend to win there, I think. United were not great against Hull, they did their job. I would say that United are slight favourites, with the home advantage and the momentum they’ve got right now, and the hiccups Liverpool have shown in the last few games.”
Liverpool lost 3-1 to Manchester United at Anfield last season.
