Jamie Redknapp reveals Jurgen Klopp’s big dilemma ahead of Man United v Liverpool
The former Liverpool midfielder reckons Jurgen Klopp could risk Philippe Coutinho against Manchester United on Sunday afternoon
Jamie Redknapp believes Jurgen Klopp could be tempted to risk Philippe Coutinho from the start when Liverpool take on Manchester United at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon.
The Merseyside outfit have failed to win their last three games in all competitions following stalemates with Sunderland in the Premier League and League Two side Plymouth Argyle in the FA Cup third round at the weekend.
Liverpool slumped to a 1-0 loss at Southampton in the first leg of their EFL Cup semi-final clash at St Mary’s on Wednesday night after Nathan Redmond’s first-half winner on the south coast gave the hosts the advantage ahead of the return leg.
The one positive for Klopp was the return of Coutinho from the bench in the second half as the Brazil international looked remarkably sharp despite not featuring for Liverpool since suffering an ankle injury against Sunderland in late November.
The Reds will be desperate to return to winning ways against their bitter rivals Manchester United at Old Trafford in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon.
Speaking to Sky Sports after Liverpool’s 1-0 loss at Southampton, Redknapp hinted that Klopp would start Coutinho after their EFL Cup disappointment.
“The one big decision he has got is Philippe Coutinho. You’ve got to be careful. He has been out for a while,” Redknapp said.
?If they had won here, he would have resisted the temptation. After that, I think it forces his hand. You can see what he brings. I am sure there will be some dialogue between the two of them. Liverpool need him. When he is at his best, there is nothing like Coutinho. That’s a big dilemma.”
