Mark Lawrenson states his prediction for Man United v Reading
Mark Lawrenson looks ahead to Manchester United's FA Cup clash against Reading on Saturday
Mark Lawrenson is fully expecting to see Manchester United book their place in the fourth round of the FA Cup with a comfortable win over Reading at Old Trafford on Saturday.
The Red Devils head into the game looking to keep up their fine form under Jose Mourinho in recent weeks in the Premier League.
Manchester United have won their last six games in the Premier League under their new boss but still trail leaders Chelsea by 10 points after 20 games of the season.
The Red Devils won the FA Cup title last season after beating Crystal Palace in the final in what turned out to be Louis van Gaal’s final game in charge back in May.
And Lawrenson is tipping Manchester United to kick off their title defence with a 2-0 win over Championship side Reading on Saturday.
Writing in his column for BBC Sport, Lawrenson said: “Reading are third in the Championship and flying. They have showed real resolve at times too, like they did when they came from 2-0 down to beat Bristol City last time out.
“It will be interesting to see how Royals boss Jaap Stam’s return to Old Trafford goes but, even if Manchester United pick some of their fringe players, I would expect the holders to go through. 2-0.”
Manchester United beat West Ham United 2-0 in the Premier League last time out.
