Jesse Lingard issues stark warning to Man United: Rival manager knows all about us
The Manchester United midfielder delivers his verdict on the return of Wigan boss Warren Joyce
Jesse Lingard has admitted that Warren Joyce has insider knowledge of Manchester United team’s strengths and weaknesses ahead of Wigan Athletic’s trip to Old Trafford in the FA Cup fourth round on Sunday afternoon.
The Red Devils will host the Latics fresh from their feat of reaching the EFL Cup final at Wembley mid-week after a 3-2 aggregate win against Hull City.
Jose Mourinho’s side lost 2-1 on Wednesday night but progressed thanks to their 2-0 win at Old Trafford earlier this month, although their second-leg defeat brought to an end their 17-game unbeaten run.
Joyce worked as a coach and then manager of Manchester United’s Reserves team for nine years before taking over the reins at Wigan last year.
The Latics boss oversaw the development of England midfielder Lingard as the talented playmaker progressed through the ranks at Old Trafford.
Speaking to Manchester United’s website about Joyce’s imminent return to Old Trafford, Lingard said.
“Yeah of course he knows all about us.
“He knows the players here and the way we play and as I said before it’s a cup game and anything can happen. But as long as we perform on the day then we have a great chance.”
Manchester United are in sixth place in the Premier League table and 14 points behind leaders Chelsea.
