Jesse Lingard explains how Man United can beat Wigan Athletic in FA Cup fourth round

The Manchester United midfielder states his prediction for their FA Cup fourth-round clash at Old Trafford

Jesse Lingard is confident Manchester United will progress to the FA Cup fifth round if Jose Mourinho’s men can perform against Wigan Athletic on Sunday.

The Red Devils were criticised for a below-par performance at Hull City on Thursday night following a 2-1 loss to the Premier League strugglers at the KCOM Stadium.

Indeed, Jose Mourinho’s side saw their 17-game unbeaten run come to an end despite Paul Pogba temporarily equalising for the visitors as Mourinho’s men progressed 3-2 on aggregate.

Manchester United were 4-0 winners against Championship side Reading in the third round as Wayne Rooney equalled Sir Bobby Charlton’s goal record with his 249th goal for the Red Devils.

Speaking to the club’s website about the imminent visit of Wigan at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon, Lingard backed Manchester United to ease to victory over the Latics in the fourth round.

“Yeah of course he knows all about us,” Lingard said.

“He knows the players here and the way we play and as I said before it’s a cup game and anything can happen. But as long as we perform on the day then we have a great chance.”

Manchester United won the FA Cup last season thanks to a 2-1 extra-time win against Crystal Palace at Wembley.
