Jose Mourinho names one player who will be rested for Man United v Wigan

The Manchester United manager confirms that David De Gea will be rested for the visit of Wigan Athletic on Sunday afternoon

Jose Mourinho has confirmed that he will give David De Gea the weekend off from FA Cup duty ahead of the visit Wigan Athletic.

The Spain international was unable to keep a clean sheet as Manchester United lost 2-1 to Hull City in the second leg of their EFL Cup semi-final.

The Red Devils edged into the League Cup final 3-2 on aggregate courtesy of a 2-0 home win in the first leg at Old Trafford.

De Gea has been one of Manchester United’s more consistent players in the 2016-17 campaign so far under new manager Mourinho.

However, the Red Devils boss confirmed that he is set to give De Gea a rest for the visit of Championship side Wigan in the FA Cup fourth round on Sunday afternoon.

Speaking at his media conference, Mourinho said:

“This is the second match for us in the FA Cup and I want to do it in a serious way. We have to play with a very good team; the only player that is out is De Gea – I’ll give him a few days off.

“I will play Romero, I will put Joel on the bench and apart from that I go with a good team because we want to try to beat them.”
