Martin Keown: Liverpool are too reliant on this player, Jurgen Klopp needs more to be champions
The Arsenal legend explains what Jurgen Klopp's side are lacking to be champions
Martin Keown has accused Liverpool of being too reliant on Sadio Mane after the Reds crashed out of the FA Cup on Saturday evening.
The 18-time English champions lost 2-1 to Championship side Wolverhampton Wanderers in the FA Cup fourth round at Anfield after goals from Richard Stearman and Andreas Weimann in the first half on Merseyside.
Liverpool have only managed to win one game in seven outings since Mane headed off to the Africa Cup of Nations on international duty with Senegal earlier this month.
The summer signing has scored nine goals and has made four assists in the 2016-17 Premier League campaign so far following his £34m move to Liverpool from Southampton in the summer.
Speaking to BT Sport about Liverpool’s poor form in recent weeks, ex-Arsenal defender Keown explained what is undermining Jurgen Klopp’s attempts to win a first title.
“With the pace Mane has, defenders want to drop off. It creates space for Firmino and Coutinho to create. They miss that balance. The one little ingredient. You have to have more than that if you’re going to be champions. Perhaps they are too reliant on Mane,” Keown said.
