Martin Keown makes claim about Man United and Liverpool in the title race
Martin Keown delivers his verdict on Manchester United and Liverpool's situations in the Premier League title race this season
Martin Keown believes that both Liverpool and Manchester United are challengers for the Premier League title this season.
The Red Devils have been in much improved form in recent weeks and have won their last six games in the top flight heading into their clash with Liverpool at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon.
Liverpool, meanwhile, have stuttered in recent weeks but are still in second place in the table and five points behind leaders Chelsea heading into this weekend’s showdown.
Manchester United know that a win on Sunday would allow them to close the gap down to Jurgen Klopp’s men to just two points,
And former Arsenal defender Keown feels that both teams have established themselves as challengers for the Premier League title this season.
Writing in his column for The Daily Mail, Keown said: “Liverpool are second and United can cut the gap to Jurgen Klopp’s side to two points if they win, so they are both contenders.
“United will see this is a critical game to close the gap. They will be all out to beat Liverpool.
“I feel that Liverpool, on the other hand, are running out of steam a little bit. They cover so much ground and play with such high energy but are not reaching the same levels as earlier in the season.”
Manchester United finished fifth and won the FA Cup last season, while Liverpool ended up in eighth place and without a trophy.
