Martin Keown reacts to Arsenal’s 2-0 win over Crystal Palace
The Arsenal legend heaps praise on Arsene Wenger's side after their 2-0 win against Crystal Palace on New Year's Day
Martin Keown hailed Arsenal’s solid performance on New Year’s Day after their 2-0 win against Crystal Palace at the Emirates Stadium.
The Gunners eased into a first-half lead courtesy of Olivier Giroud’s sensational opener in north London after the France international produced an incredible scorpion kick to beat Palace goalkeeper Wayne Hennessey.
Arsenal extended their lead in the second half through Nigerian midfielder Alex Iwobi to seal a 2-0 victory over The Eagles and hoist Arsene Wenger’s side up to third place in the table ahead of Manchester City.
The north London outfit are nine points behind Premier League leaders Chelsea after the Blues maintained their winning run on New Year’s Eve thanks to a 4-2 win against Stoke City at Stamford Bridge.
Former Arsenal defender Keown gave the thumbs up to New Year’s Day performance.
“It was an incredible finish from Giroud, but Arsenal were really solid today in every compartment,” Keown told BBC Sport.
Arsenal finished in second place in the Premier League table last season.
The Gunners will make the trip to Bournemouth in their next top-flight fixture on Tuesday night.
