Matt Le Tissier: Why I’m not changing my mind about Chelsea in the title race
The Southampton legend doesn't anticipate Chelsea relinquishing control of the Premier League title race
Matt Le Tissier says he won’t change his mind about Chelsea in the Premier League title race.
The Blues have looked in imperious form in recent months after a run of 13 successive Premier League victories to set a new club record before their trip to White Hart Lane earlier this month.
Chelsea failed to equal Arsenal’s record of 14 Premier League wins on the spin after a 2-0 loss to Tottenham Hotspur at White Hart Lane following goals either side of half-time from Dele Alli.
Antonio Conte’s side are still five points ahead of title rivals Liverpool in second place ahead of their trip to defending champions Leicester City at the King Power Stadium on Saturday evening.
Speaking to Sky Sports, former Southampton midfielder Le Tissier delivered his prediction for the Premier League title race with 18 games remaining in the 2016-17 season.
“I have to say I backed Chelsea at the start of the season and I can’t change my mind now. They’ve got the lead and they’ve got no European football to worry about,” Le Tissier said.
“It must be very frustrating for the chasing sides when you consider Manchester United have won six successive league matches and not climbed any positions.
“All six are providing capable title challenges with very little between them so you’ve got to see the side in top spot holding a big advantage.”
Chelsea finished in tenth place in the Premier League table last season.
Conte signed five players in the summer transfer window.
