Mauricio Pochettino sends Tottenham warning to Chelsea in title race
Mauricio Pochettino says Tottenham have firmly placed themselves in the title race
Mauricio Pochettino has warned Chelsea that his Tottenham team are determined to battle them for the title until the end of the season.
The Lilywhites made a statement to the Premier League about their title credentials last Wednesday when they sealed a 2-0 win over Chelsea at White Hart Lane to end the west London side’s 13-game unbeaten run.
Chelsea, however, are still the heavy favourites to win the title and are currently five points clear of second-placed Liverpool in the table.
Tottenham are third and seven points behind Antonio Conte’s pace-setters.
However, Pochettino feels that his side have shown that they have what it takes to mount a serious title challenge in the second half of the season.
Speaking at a news conference on Friday morning, Pochettino said: “We are in a very good position in the league after 20 games.
“It is a long way until the end of the season but if we show that we can cope with that level and be competitive I think why not. We will be there to fight them [Chelsea] for the title.”
Tottenham ended up in third place in the Premier League table last season despite being Leicester City’s closest challengers for most of the campaign.
