Mesut Ozil makes revealing admission about his Arsenal future
Mesut Ozil reveals that he is keen to sign a new contract at Arsenal, as long as Arsene Wenger also commits to the club
Mesut Ozil has revealed that he is keen to sign a new contract with Arsenal but says that he first wants reassurances about Arsene Wenger’s future at the club.
The Germany international’s future at The Emirates has been a source of speculation along with fellow attacker Alexis Sanchez in recent weeks after the pair both entered into the final 18 months of their contacts at the north London club.
Ozil has earned a reputation as one of the Premier League’s top attacking players since his arrival at The Emirates from Real Madrid in the summer of 2013.
There is yet to be an official announcement from Arsenal about Ozil and Sanchez’s futures at the club.
However, the 28-year-old has now suggested that he would be happy to sign a new deal with the club as long as he knows that Wenger will extend his own contract beyond this summer.
Ozil is quoted as saying by Metro, in an interview with Kicker: “The club knows that I am here, most of all, because of Arsene Wenger.
“He is the one who signed me and he is the one whose trust I have. The club also knows that I want to be clear what the manager is going to do [in the future].
“I am very, very happy at Arsenal and have let the club know that I would be ready to sign a new contract.
“The fans want me to stay and now it is just down to the club.”
