Michael Owen reacts to Liverpool’s 0-0 draw with Plymouth in FA Cup
The ex-Liverpool striker has his say on the goalless draw at Anfield in the FA Cup third round
Michael Owen felt Plymouth deserved their FA Cup third-round replay after Liverpool were held to a frustrating goalless draw at Anfield.
Jurgen Klopp brought on his big-name players Daniel Sturridge, Adam Lallana and Roberto Firmino in search of a winner in the second half.
However, the Liverpool trio were unable to make the breakthrough as the League Two side clung on to secure a goalless draw and force a replay later this month.
Former England and Liverpool striker Owen was full of praise for the visitors, adding that the Plymouth captain Luke McCormick was hardly worked in the goal.
“We spoke about the youngsters but there were some big hitters that came on in the second half and Plymouth still stood firm,” Owen told BT Sport.
“Really the goalkeeper didn’t have too much to do. They condensed those dangerous spaces.”
Liverpool will make the long trip to Southampton in the first leg of their EFL Cup semi-final at St Mary’s on Wednesday night.
Klopp’s side will make the trip to Manchester United in their next Premier League fixture on Sunday afternoon.
The Merseyside outfit are in second place in the Premier League table and five points behind leaders Chelsea.
