Erik Lamela has rubbished reports of a return to Roma after the Tottenham Hotspur took to Instagram to respond to transfer speculation surrounding his future.

The Argentina international hasn’t featured for the north London side since a 2-1 loss to Liverpool in the EFL Cup quarter-final at Anfield in late October.

Lamela has scored one goal and has made three assists in 14 appearances in all competitions in the 2016-17 season so far.

The South American has struggled with a hip injury since the League Cup clash.

The Daily Express reported on Tuesday that Lamela was hoping to return to his former club Roma after returning to the Italian capital this month.

However, Lamela has taken to his Instagram page to respond to transfer speculation about his long-term future at White Hart Lane.

Lamela wrote: “Just to be clear, I am in Rome at the moment recovering for an injury and not for any other thing that is not to do with football! Missing White hart Lane every minute! Thanks to all of those who encourage me day by day! 💪🏼”

The Argentina midfielder moved to Tottenham in a £30.75m move from Serie A outfit Roma in 2013.
