Mike Phelan: This is what Man United have got back under Jose Mourinho
The former Manchester United manager delivers his verdict on the club's recent progress under Jose Mourinho
Manchester United have got the devil back in their eye under Jose Mourinho, according to Mike Phelan.
The Red Devils eased to a 2-0 win against Hull City in the first leg of their EFL Cup semi-final clash at Old Trafford thanks to goals from Juan Mata and Marouane Fellaini in the second half.
Manchester United have won their last nine games in all competitions ahead of the visit of bitter rivals Liverpool in the Premier League at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon.
Phelan was Sir Alex Ferguson’s number two during the club’s decorated spell under the Scot before David Moyes took over the reins of the 20-time English champions in 2013.
Speaking to Sky Sports after Manchester United’s 2-0 victory over Hull in the League Cup, former Red Devils assistant manager Phelan delivered his verdict on the club’s progress under Mourinho.
“They are in a much better place right now,” Phelan said.
“The players look as though they’ve got that devil in their eye. If they can see that in the second half of the season they can kick on and put pressure on the teams above them.”
Manchester United are in sixth place in the Premier League table and three points adrift of the top four.
