Nemanja Matic warns title rivals: Chelsea back on the right path

The Chelsea midfielder was pleased with their response at Leicester following their defeat at Tottenham earlier this month

Nemanja Matic has claimed that Chelsea are back on the right path in the title race after their 3-0 win at Leicester City on Saturday evening.

The west London side saw their 13-game winning run come to an end earlier this month after Antonio Conte’s side lost 2-0 to title rivals Tottenham Hotspur at White Hart Lane.

Chelsea were without Diego Costa for their trip to the defending Premier League champions after Conte revealed that the top-flight’s leading goal-scorer had a back injury.

However, Marcos Alonso scored either side of half-time at the King Power Stadium to put the west London side in charge of the Premier League clash before Pedro Rodriguez completed a comfortable win.

Speaking to Chelsea’s website after their 3-0 victory over the Foxes on Saturday evening, Matic praised his Blues team-mates for their response at Leicester.

“It was important for us to go back on the same road that we were before Tottenham, against a very good team that is physical and strong,’ said the Serbian midfielder,” Matic said.

“The 3-0 result makes it look like an easy game, but on the pitch it was very hard and I’m happy for the team because we played very well, we scored three goals in a very difficult stadium and I hope we continue.

“They have very fast players up front. They wait for our mistakes, so we waited for the second goal and after that it was easier for us; not easy, but easier to play and to find the third one.”

Chelsea have won 14 of their last 15 games in the Premier League.

The Blues finished in tenth place in the table last term.
