Nigel Winterburn makes prediction about Arsenal this season
Nigel Winterburn discusses Arsenal's Premier League title hopes this season under Arsene Wenger
Nigel Winterburn believes that Arsene Wenger will find himself under significant pressure at Arsenal this season if the Gunners are not within touching distance of the Premier League leaders come April.
The north London side are currently in fifth place in the Premier League table after a stuttering run of form under Wenger over the Christmas period.
Arsenal lost back to back games against Everton and Manchester City in December before slipping up against Bournemouth and drawing 3-3 with the Cherries last week.
The Gunners have come under pressure for not winning the Premier League title since their famous unbeaten triumph in the 2003-04 season.
Arsenal finished without a trophy last season and in second place in the Premier League table under Wenger, whose contract is due to expire in the summer.
And former Arsenal defender Winterburn believes that Wenger will find himself under significant pressure later this season if the Gunners are not challenging for the title.
Speaking to Sky Sports News HQ on Thursday, Winterburn said: “For a lot of Arsenal fans, being in the top four isn’t enough for them this season.
“They want to see their team challenging for the title. Every time I come on [Sky Sports News HQ] I am asked the same question.
“Challenging for the title is being within three, four or five points of the leaders in April.
“If Arsenal are not there, then Arsene Wenger is going to come under pressure again because he hasn’t signed his contract.”
