Paul Merson makes prediction about Man United and Chelsea in the title race

Paul Merson believes that Manchester United are back in the race for the Premier League title

Paul Merson believes that Manchester United are back in the Premier League title race and will challenge Chelsea for the top-flight crown.

The Red Devils have begun to find some good form in recent weeks after what was initially a shaky start under new boss Jose Mourinho at Old Trafford.

Manchester United struggled to find consistent form in the Premier League but have been much better in recent weeks and have won their last six games on the spin in the top flight.

Chelsea have been the Premier League’s top performers this season but suffered a blow to their title hopes when they were beaten 2-0 by Tottenham last week.

Manchester United are currently preparing for their crunch showdown with Liverpool at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon.

And although Merson still feels Chelsea have the advantage due to their lack of European football this season, the former Arsenal man is tipping Manchester United to challenge.

Asked whether the last round of results have changed the title race, Merson told Sky Sports: “Yes I do. I think it’s brought Manchester United back into it.

“I think anyone can win it still, it’s really opened it up over the last week or so.

“Ive looked at the fixtures and from next week until February, the top six play each other every weekend.

“The league will go up and down until then. I still just give Chelsea the advantage because they play once a week.”
