Paul Merson offers urgent advice to Arsenal about Alexis Sanchez
The former Arsenal midfielder wants to see the north London side sort out Alexis Sanchez's new contract
Paul Merson has urged Arsenal to resolve Alexis Sanchez’s future.
Contract talks with the Chile international are reported to have stalled in recent weeks after Arsenal offered the 28-year-old a new deal thought to be worth £180,000 a week.
Sanchez has been moved out to the wing in recent weeks to accommodate Olivier Giroud in a centre-forward role and the the France striker has scored three goals in three games.
However, the South American made no secret of his frustration after Arsenal missed out on the chance to move to within five points of leaders Chelsea on Tuesday night.
The north London side came from 3-0 down to rescue a point in a 3-3 draw with Bournemouth thanks to goals from Sanchez, Giroud and Lucas Perez.
Speaking to Sky Sports News HQ, Merson demanded that Arsenal sort out a deal as soon as possible to end uncertainty surrounding their star man.
“Alexis Sanchez is their best player by an absolute distance at the moment,” Merson said.
“They need to keep him happy. He looks very frustrated at the moment. His contract needs to be sorted out very quickly.
“As soon as this was talked about it should have been done straightaway.”
Sanchez has scored 13 times in 20 Premier League games in the 2016-17 season so far.
