Paul Pogba discusses reported Man United target: I’m proud of him
The Manchester United midfielder has huge respect for Atletico Madrid striker Antoine Griezmann
Paul Pogba has spoken of his pride that Atletico Madrid striker Antoine Griezmann has established himself as one of the best players in Europe.
The France international has blossomed into one of Atletico’s most-important players under Diego Simeone after the striker scored 44 times in two La Liga seasons.
Griezmann has only won the Spanish Super Cup during his Atletico career, while the forward finished as a European championship runner-up after France lost 1-0 to Portugal in extra time in the Euro 2016 final.
The former Real Sociedad striker is firm friends with Pogba and The Sun reported on Friday that Manchester United are willing to offer Griezmann the same wage as their midfielder if he completes a move to Old Trafford.
Speaking to Fifa’s website about Griezmann, Pogba said:
“I’m very proud of him. I know what he’s been through.
“When he arrived at Atletico Madrid the first year, he wasn’t playing all the time, he was on the bench. He talked to me, saying he was frustrated, that it was hard as he wasn’t playing.
“After that he kept working hard, and now he’s one of the three nominees for The Best award. I’m very happy for him, especially to see a French player doing so well.”
Pogba moved to Manchester United in a club-record £89m deal from Serie A champions Juventus in the summer transfer window.
The Red Devils are in sixth place in the Premier League table and 10 points behind leaders Chelsea.
