Paul Scholes delivers verdict on Willian’s latest display for Chelsea
Paul Scholes has his say on Willian's display for Chelsea against Leicester City at the weekend
Paul Scholes has heaped praise on Willian for his brilliant performance for Chelsea in the absence of Diego Costa on Saturday.
The Brazilian started in an attacking three of Pedro and Eden Hazard as Chelsea returned to winning ways in style with a 3-0 victory over Leicester City at the King Power Stadium.
Willian was one of Chelsea’s standout performers last season and the Brazilian has been a regular fixture in Antonio Conte’s team this season, too.
Costa was left out of the Chelsea squad for Saturday’s win against the champions.
However, former Manchester United midfielder Scholes was hugely impressed by the impact Willian had during the victory over the Foxes as Pedro added to Marcos Alonso’s double at the King Power Stadium.
Speaking to BT Sport after the game, Scholes said: “Chelsea are a massive club. When you lose a player [like Costa] it’s disappointing but there are so many other players to come in.
“What a player Willian has been. You soon get over it [missing Costa], it’s a chance for another player to show what he can do.
“One player shouldn’t determine how your squad feel or play.”
Chelsea are currently seven points clear at the top of the Premier League table as they look to win the title in Conte’s first season in charge.
