Paul Scholes makes title claim ahead of Man United v Liverpool

The Manchester United legend believes Jose Mourinho's side could be back in the title race next weekend

Paul Scholes has claimed that Manchester United will be back in the Premier League title race if Jose Mourinho’s side beat Liverpool next weekend.

The Red Devils booked their place in the FA Cup fourth round on Saturday afternoon thanks to a 4-0 victory over Reading at Old Trafford.

Wayne Rooney broke the deadlock before Anthony Martial extended the home side’s lead ahead of half-time before Marcus Rashford scored twice in the second half.

Manchester United have now won their last eight games in all competitions to build impressive momentum under manager Mourinho following a stuttering start to the season.

The Red Devils are 10 points adrift of Premier League leaders Chelsea after the west London side lost 2-0 to Tottenham Hotspur at White Hart Lane mid-week.

Speaking to BT Sport about Manchester United’s next Premier League game at home to Liverpool, Scholes suggested that Mourinho’s side could make an unlikely title push:

“There is a big game against Liverpool next week and if Manchester United win, I think they’re back in the title race.”
