Paul Scholes opens up about Marcus Rashford after Man United’s win over Reading
Paul Scholes has his say on Marcus Rashford after the teenage striker scored twice for Manchester United against Reading
Paul Scholes has heaped praise on Marcus Rashford following the striker’s two-goal haul in Manchester United’s 4-0 win over Reading in the third round of the FA Cup on Saturday.
Wayne Rooney and Anthony Martial had put Manchester United 2-0 up at halt-time, and 19-year-old Rashford then scored twice in the second half to cement the Red Devils’ place in the fourth round.
Rashford has earned plenty of new admirers since breaking into the Manchester United first team last season under Louis van Gaal.
The teenager was rewarded for his fine performances last season with a call-up to the England squad for Euro 2016.
And former Manchester United midfielder Scholes was delighted by what he saw from Rashford over the weekend.
Speaking to BT Sport after Saturday’s win, Scholes said: “I thought his all-round performance as a centre-forward was magnificent.
“I’ve seen him for a couple of years from afar. Watching his movement as a centre-forward, it was brilliant.
“He could have scored four or five goals and that wouldn’t have been unjust… He is definitely a centre-forward for the future.”
Manchester United, who are sixth in the Premier League table, are now preparing for their EFL Cup semi-final first-leg clash against Hull City on Tuesday night.
