Paul Scholes reacts to Man United’s 4-0 win over Reading
The Manchester United legend delivers his verdict on their FA Cup third-round victory
Paul Scholes felt like Manchester United produced a performance worthy of their great sides of the past after a 4-0 win against Reading in the FA Cup.
The Red Devils made the breakthrough thanks to club captain Wayne Rooney after the 31-year-old moved level on 249 goals with Sir Bobby Charlton after his close-range finish.
The hosts made it 2-0 through Anthony Martial after the France international danced through the Reading defence before steering a finish into the away side’s net.
The Premier League giants eased to a comfortable victory in the second half after Marcus Rashford raced onto Michael Carrick’s through pass and showed composure to finish to make it three.
The England forward netted his second of the third-round clash after a mistake from Reading goalkeeper Ali Al-Habsi gave the Manchester United striker an open goal.
Manchester United legend Scholes admitted that he is excited about his former club’s current form.
“Manchester United of the past six weeks have looked like the Manchester United of old. They want to score goals and they’re playing with purpose and creating chances all the time. It’s difficult to play against,” Scholes told BT Sport.
Manchester United are in sixth place in the Premier League table and two points behind fourth-placed Manchester City.
The Red Devils will host Liverpool in their top-flight game at Old Trafford next weekend.
