Paul Scholes has told Chelsea not to be concerned about Diego Costa’s future at the club and concentrate on their Premier League title push.
Costa hit the headlines on Saturday after he was left out of the Chelsea squad to face Leicester City due to a back problem, but some reports in the British media suggested that he had fallen out with a coach.
The Spanish striker has been one of the Premier League’s top performers this season and has already scored 14 goals and made five assists in the top flight for the Blues.
Costa has been heavily linked with a possible January transfer to China this month as the speculation about his future continues.
However, after Chelsea thrashed Leicester City 3-0 on Saturday, Scholes insisted that the Spaniard’s future should not be a concern for the west London side.
Speaking to BT Sport after Saturday’s game, Scholes said: “If there was a lad in my dressing room [who wanted to leave] I wouldn’t care.
“Why? Because if he doesn’t want to play for my team and the rest of us then so what? That’s his decision.
“If he wants to go, let him go.
“The most important players at a big club like Chelsea are the players who are on the pitch and the sidelines.”
Chelsea are currently top of the Premier League table and the favourites to win the title.
