Phil Neville delivers top verdict on Anthony Martial after Man United’s 4-0 win

The former Manchester United defender was impressed with Anthony Martial

Phil Neville believes Anthony Martial has all the attributes to become a top player after the forward’s performance in Manchester United’s 4-0 win against Wigan Athletic in the FA Cup.

The France international was challenged by Jose Mourinho to seize his chance to impress in the Manchester United side after the Portuguese coach was critical of some of his lacklustre recent performances.

Martial stepped up to the mark during the fourth-round clash as the France winger teed up Chris Smalling for the home side’s second goal in a landslide win against the Latics.

Speaking to BBC Sport after Martial’s influential performance against the Championship side, Neville delivered a glowing verdict on the 21-year-old attacker.

“I think in the first 30 minutes Anthony Martial’s body language was poor.

“In the second half he was fantastic. He is better running onto the ball than receiving it with his back to play. He likes those areas on the left.

He has got all of the ingredients to be a top, top player. We just need to see it more often.”

Martial moved to Manchester United in a £36m deal from Ligue 1 side AS Monaco in the 2015 summer transfer window.
