Phil Neville offers Anthony Martial simple advice to kick-start Man United career

The former Manchester United defender tells Anthony Martial to stop listening to his agent

Phil Neville says Anthony Martial needs to ignore his agent and to play more consistently in order to kick-start his Manchester United career.

The France international produced an impressive performance on just his eighth Premier League start of the 2016-17 season under new manager Jose Mourinho.

The Red Devils striker cancelled out Grant Leadbitter’s goal in Manchester United’s 2-1 win against Middlesbrough at Old Trafford on New Year’s Eve.

Martial scored two goals and made three assists in 12 Premier League appearances after the centre-forward struggled to secure a first-team spot under Mourinho.

The former AS Monaco man netted 11 times in 49 games in all competitions last term after Martial completed a £35m move to Manchester United from the Ligue 1 club.

Ex-Manchester United defender Neville has offered some advice to Martial after a frustrating spell in the Premier League in recent months.

“I think it’s pretty simple with Anthony Martial. The club invested £60m in him,” Neville told Match of the Day.

“He needs to play to that level more consistently. He needs to ring his agent and ask why is he linking him with Sevilla. Manchester United are one of the biggest clubs in the world and he wants to stay here.”

Manchester United finished in fifth place in the Premier League table last season.
