Granit Xhaka takes to social media in the wake of his sending off for Arsenal against Burnley on Saturday...
Granit Xhaka has taken to social media to apologise for his sending-off after the midfielder was shown a red card in Arsenal’s 2-1 win over Burnley at The Emirates on Sunday.
The Swiss midfielder was given his marching orders in the 64th minute at The Emirates following a reckless two-footed tackle on Steven Defour.
Arsenal took the lead through Shkodran Mustafi’s header from a corner, before Andre Gray netted an equaliser for the visitors deep into stoppage time from the penalty spot after Francis Coquelin conceded the spot-kick.
But it was Alexis Sanchez who had the final say, when the Chilean stepped up to duly convert his penalty after Laurent Koscielny was fouled in the box, despite the defender appearing to be offside in the build-up.
Xhaka will now miss Arsenal’s next three games, including the crunch clash with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on 4 February.
And the midfielder posted the following update on Instagram after the game: “So disappointed about the way I left the field, but the team showed strength in the victory 2:1. Let’s look ahead to the next match. 💪”
