Jordan Henderson was delighted to see Joe Gomez back in competitive action for Liverpool
Jordan Henderson couldn’t disguise his delight at seeing Joe Gomez back in competitive action on Sunday afternoon after the defender made his first appearance under Jurgen Klopp in Liverpool’s 0-0 draw with Plymouth.
The England Under-21 international started alongside Lucas Leiva at centre-half for the visit of the League Two side in the FA Cup third-round clash at Anfield.
Gomez was making his first competitive appearance under Klopp after the versatile defender suffered a season-ending knee injury in October 2015 while on international duty with England’s Under-21 side.
Klopp was appointed as Brendan Rodgers’s successor just a few days earlier and went on to lead Liverpool to an eighth place finish and two cup finals in his first season in charge at the Merseyside club.
Liverpool captain Henderson is thought to be nursing a heel injury which he incurred during a 1-0 win against title rivals Manchester City on New Year’s Eve.
However, Henderson was still playing the captain’s role with the above Instagram post and following caption:
“Great to see this man back! 💪🏻🔥”
