Juan Mata reflects on Manchester United's 2-1 defeat by Hull as the Red Devils reach the EFL Cup final
Juan Mata has challenged his Manchester United team-mates to win another trophy after Jose Mourinho’s side reached the EFL Cup final on Thursday night.
The 20-time English champions lost 2-1 to the Tigers in the second leg of their EFL Cup semi-final at KCOM Stadium but progressed 3-2 on aggregate following their 2-0 win at Old Trafford over a fortnight ago.
Mata got on the score sheet in Manchester United’s first leg win as the Spain international highlighted that he is a big-game player after the midfielder netted in their FA Cup final triumph last year.
Manchester United reached the EFL Cup showpiece but it proved bittersweet after the Red Devils saw their 17-game unbeaten run come to an end.
Mata posted the above photo on his Instagram page and wrote the following caption on his photo-sharing app:
“Our unbeaten run might have finished… but… we are back at Wembley boys!! 🔴💪🏻🏟 C’mon @manchesterunited let’s fight for another trophy! #eflcup #mufc”
Mata moved to Manchester United in a £37.1m deal from Chelsea in the 2013 January transfer window.
The Red Devils haven’t won the title since 2013.
