Mesut Ozil took a break from Premier League football on Thursday night as the Arsenal midfielder relaxed over a game of basketball.

The Germany international has been out of action due to the flu since a 1-0 win against West Bromwich Albion at The Emirates on Boxing Day.

However, Ozil made a much-anticipated return to training ahead of Arsenal’s 2-1 win against Preston North End in the FA Cup third round last weekend, before featuring in the 4-0 victory over Swansea on Saturday.

The Arsenal playmaker has scored nine times in 23 games in all competitions after a solid start to the 2016-17 season for the World Cup winner.

Ozil has been the centre of much media speculation in recent months after failing to agree a new long-term deal with the Gunners.

However, the Arsenal midfielder was throwing himself into his other sporting love on Thursday night as Ozil watched the Denver Nuggets beat the Indiana Pacers 140-112 at The O2.

Ozil posted the above photo on his Instagram page and wrote the following caption on the photo-sharing app:

“Thanks for your invitation, Josh! My 2nd favourite sport: 🏀🙌🏀 Enjoying the #NBALondon match @Nuggets vs. @Pacers! 👍😉 #basketball #NBA”
