Steven Gerrard posted a snap on Instagram on Wednesday morning as the Liverpool legend made the long trip to Plymouth Argyle in the FA Cup third round.

The retired England international returned to the United Kingdom at the end of his contract with Major League Soccer side LA Galaxy last year.

Gerrard won the FA Cup twice during his career thanks to dramatic victories over Arsenal and West Ham United at the Millennium Stadium.

Liverpool have a long way to go to reach the Wembley showpiece this season after a goalless stalemate with League Two side Plymouth earlier this month.

The Merseyside outfit battled to a 1-1 draw with Manchester United at Old Trafford at the weekend as Zlatan Ibrahimovic cancelled out James Milner’s opener.

Jurgen Klopp could do with Gerrard to help what is tipped to be an inexperienced side against Plymouth on Wednesday night.

But the ex-Liverpool captain will be working as a pundit on BT Sport for the third-round replay.

Gerrard posted the above photo on his Instagram page and wrote the following caption:

“Plymouth bound to watch the reds 😁#btsport #facup 👍”
