Possible Chelsea boost after left-back turns down Napoli offer – report
Faouzi Ghoulam has rejected a contract offer from Napoli amid reported interest from Chelsea, say Evening Standard
Chelsea have been handed a possible boost in their pursuit of Fauozi Ghoulam after the left-back turned down a contract offer from Napoli, according to reports in the British media.
The Evening Standard are reporting that the Algeria international has rejected a new contract from his current employers amid interest from the Premier League leaders in the January transfer window.
The same article sheds light on Napoli’s move after the Serie A club offered to increase the defender’s wages to £30,000-a-week, which would represent a significant pay increase.
However, Ghoulam’s agent is holding out for a sum in the region of £40,000-a-week for his client as Napoli face a battle to keep hold of the defender in the current transfer window, according to the report.
Ghoulam has made three assists in 15 appearances in Serie A this season.
Chelsea have been utilising uncapped Spanish defender Marcos Alonso and Nigeria international Victor Moses as their wing-backs so far this term.
The Blues finished in tenth place in the Premier League table last term.
