Ian Wright states prediction for Preston v Arsenal
The former Arsenal striker is backing Arsene Wenger's side to win, despite conceding upset could be on the cards
Ian Wright admits Arsenal will need to start well if Arsene Wenger’s side are going to avoid a FA Cup upset at Preston North End on Saturday evening.
The Gunners are winless in their last three Premier League games on the road after successive 2-1 losses to Everton and Manchester City during the festive schedule.
Arsenal had to come from 3-0 down to rescue a 3-3 draw with Bournemouth on the south coast on Tuesday night thanks to goals from Alexis Sanchez, Lucas Perez and Olivier Giroud.
Preston, on the other hand, were 1-0 winners against Burton Albion in the Championship in their last game before the visit of the Premier League giants in the FA Cup third round.
Speaking on The Sun Goals podcast, former Arsenal striker Wright admitted that he is concerned for the north London side despite backing Wenger’s men to move into the next round.
“I am worried because I don’t know how Arsenal are going to start,” Wright said.
“They’re at home and they know Arsenal are licking their wounds. Everything is geared toward Preston to start well and nick a goal and see what happens.”
Wright added: “You’ve got to go for an Arsenal win.”
Arsenal won the FA Cup in 2014 and 2015 to end Wenger’s silverware drought following their Premier League title success in 2003-04.
