Pundit: Arsenal aren’t quite the same without this player

Pat Nevin believes Arsenal struggle without creative midfielder Santi Cazorla...

Arsenal aren’t quite the same team without their Spanish midfielder Santi Cazorla, according to Pat Nevin.

The Gunners have been without the former Malaga and Villarreal playmaker throughout most of the 2016-17 season so far.

Indeed, Cazorla has scored two goals and has made two assists in just seven appearances in the 2016-17 Premier League season.

The 32-year-old hasn’t featured for the north London side since a 6-0 win against Bulgarian side Ludogorets Razgrad in the Champions League on 19 October.

Cazorla is currently nursing a serious knee injury, although the midfielder is being tipped to sign a new contract with the Premier League giants.

Speaking to Newstalk’s Off The Ball podcast after Arsenal’s 2-1 win against Burnley on Sunday afternoon, former Chelsea midfielder Nevin highlighted Cazorla’s absence.

“I just don’t know if they’re quite full there yet. I do always go back to the absence of Santi Cazorla. When he isn’t playing, they’re not quite the same side,” Nevin said.

Arsenal are in second place in the Premier League table and eight points adrift of current leaders Chelsea after their dramatic 2-1 victory over Burnley.

The north London side will host Watford in their next top-flight fixture before making the short trip to the Premier League leaders at Stamford Bridge.
