Pundit: Arsenal need to sell Alexis Sanchez if he doesn’t change
Charlie Nicholas believes someone at Arsenal needs to have a word with Alexis Sanchez about his tantrum
Arsenal need to sell Alexis Sanchez unless the forward stops throwing tantrums, according to Charlie Nicholas.
The Chile international scored the first of Arsenal’s three goals in their 3-3 draw with Bournemouth on Tuesday night as Arsene Wenger’s side came from 3-0 down to rescue a point.
However, Sanchez struck an unhappy figure in the second half despite the north London side salvaging a draw and avoiding a third successive Premier League defeat on the road.
The South American has scored 13 times in 20 Premier League appearances in the 2016-17 season so far after having been utilised largely as a centre-forward this term.
However, Wenger has started with Olivier Giroud in a centre-forward role in recent weeks and the France star has scored three goals and made two assists in his last three appearances.
Writing in his Sky Sports column, Nicholas suggested that Sanchez is unhappy playing out wide to accommodate Giroud up front before adding the South American needs to improve his attitude.
“Sanchez is a top-class player but he’s got no divine right to just stand out wide and expect everybody to pass to him,” Nicholas said.
“I don’t know what is going on with him – I think he needs telling and if he doesn’t change he needs selling. This team has helped make him a star and he needs to show some appreciation rather than throwing tantrums.”
