Pundit explains why defender will transfer to Man United ahead of Chelsea
Shaka Hislop delivers his verdict on Victor Lindelof's destination in the summer: Chelsea or Man United?
Manchester United will beat Chelsea to the signature of Victor Lindelof in the summer transfer window, according to Shaka Hislop.
The Sweden international has emerged as one of Europe’s most-coveted defenders in recent months after his excellent performances for Portuguese side Benfica.
Manchester United were linked with the centre-half last summer and Jose Mourinho’s men have continued to be touted as a potential destination for the Swedish man.
However, Chelsea are reported to have entered the race to sign the promising centre-half as Antonio Conte looks to bolster his defensive options.
Mourinho signed Eric Bailly in a £30m deal from La Liga outfit Villarreal in the summer but the African has had a number of different centre-half partners, including Daley Blind, Marcos Rojo and Chris Smalling.
Conte, on the other hand, snapped up David Luiz in a £32m transfer from Ligue 1 giants Paris Saint-Germain and the Brazilian has formed a back three alongside Cesar Azpilicueta and Gary Cahill.
Speaking to ESPN, former Premier League goalkeeper Hislop delivered his thoughts on where Lindelof will end up next summer.
“You look at Chelsea’s centre-halves right now, you’ve got [Gary] Cahill, he’s 31. Then Kurt Zouma and Nathan Ake and I think they will both feature for Chelsea in the long-term.
“Now if I’m Lindelof looking at that, I would think ‘where do I fit in alongside Zouma and Ake’.
“So I just think that Manchester United is a better fit and right now I’m going to say [he won’t join Chelsea].”
