Pundit issues warning to Tottenham: This is Chelsea’s strength
Mario Melchiot believes Chelsea's biggest strength is their counter-attacking ability
Mario Melchiot has warned Mauricio Pochettino that Tottenham Hotspur’s must be wary of Chelsea’s counter-attack at White Hart Lane on Wednesday night.
The Blues will make the short trip across London to face the Lilywhites at White Hart Lane as Conte’s side look to maintain their impressive winning run.
Chelsea have won their last 13 Premier League fixtures and can equal Arsenal’s record of 14 successive victories with victory over Tottenham.
Only Liverpool and Arsenal have scored more goals than Chelsea in the 2016-17 Premier League campaign as Diego Costa and Eden Hazard continue to impress.
While Melchiot believes Tottenham will be under pressure to produce an attacking performance, the ex-Chelsea defender doubts that Conte will deviate from his counter-attacking plan.
“Chelsea don’t have to entertain the White Hart Lane fans,” Melchiot told Sky Sports. “If Tottenham start the game and sit back, maybe the fans will turn [on them].
“But the other side is that it’s a derby, you have to win, so how are you going to go about it? You have to attack. And everybody knows the strength of this Chelsea side is the counter-attack.”
Chelsea were 2-1 winners against Tottenham during their winning run at Stamford Bridge.
Christian Eriksen broke the deadlock but Victor Moses and Pedro Rodriguez fired the Blues to victory and preserved their 100 per cent record since a 3-0 loss at Arsenal in September.
