Pundit: Jose Mourinho deserves credit for getting best out of this Man United duo
Pat Nevin hails Jose Mourinho's ability to get some top performances out of Manchester United duo Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Henrikh Mkhitaryan
Jose Mourinho has done an amazing job to get the best out of Manchester United duo Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Henrikh Mkhitaryan, according to Pat Nevin.
The Red Devils signed the former Sweden international in a free transfer from Ligue 1 giants Paris Saint-Germain in the summer following the appointment of Mourinho as Louis van Gaal’s successor.
Ibrahimovic went through a difficult spell in September and October but the 35-year-old has been in prolific form either side of Christmas to take his tally to 13 goals in 19 games in his first Premier League season.
Mourinho brought in Armenia international Mkhitaryan in a £30m deal from Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund but the attacking midfielder barely featured in the opening four months of the season.
However, the 28-year-old playmaker has come into his own over the past months, scoring three goals and making three assists in his last eight games.
Mourinho will be hoping Ibrahimovic and Mkhitaryan can continue their impressive performances when Liverpool visit Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon.
Speaking to Irish radio station Newstalk, ex-Chelsea midfielder Nevin said:
“If Jose Mourinho can get the best out of Wayne Rooney and add a few more… He’s got the best out of Zlatan Ibrahimovic – well done Jose!
“You look at others who could come in. He’s beginning to get the best out of Mkhitaryan as well. These are world-class players that we wondering if they could do it again, he is getting them back.
“If he gets the vast majority of them back to their best – what a chance!”
