Pundit: Liverpool can take big positives in the title race

Ex-Chelsea striker Tony Cascarino reflects on what has been an interesting week for Liverpool

Liverpool can take encouragement from a positive week in the Premier League title race despite their 2-2 draw at Sunderland, according to Tony Cascarino.

The Merseyside outfit were 1-0 winners against title rivals Manchester City on New Year’s Eve thanks to Georginio Wijnaldum’s first-half header at Anfield.

The 18-time English champions wasted their chance to move to within three points of leaders Chelsea after Jurgen Klopp’s side twice squandered a lead at the Stadium of Light.

Jermain Defoe equalised twice from the penalty spot to rescue a point for Sunderland and leave Liverpool rueing a poor result ahead of Chelsea’s trip to Tottenham Hotspur.

The Premier League leaders saw their 13-game winning run come to an end of Wednesday night after Tottenham were 2-0 winners against Chelsea at White Hart Lane.

Speaking to The Game podcast, former Chelsea striker Cascarino reflected on what has been a positive week for Liverpool.

“Liverpool have to take a big positive out of the week that they’ve had, including beating Manchester City. They’ve been performing. They’re a good side,” Cascarino said.
