Pundit makes prediction about Liverpool and Man United in top-four race
Danny Mills explains why Manchester United are better placed than Liverpool in the top-four race
Manchester United have a better chance of finishing in the top four than Liverpool, according to Danny Mills.
Jurgen Klopp’s side were within six minutes of securing a 1-0 victory over the Red Devils at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon after James Milner scored a first-half penalty following Paul Pogba’s handball.
However, Zlatan Ibrahimovic equalised in the 84th minute with a close-range header to salvage a point for the hosts to leave Jose Mourinho’s men five points behind third-placed Liverpool.
Manchester United had won nine successive games in all competitions before their 1-1 stalemate with their bitter Premier League rivals.
Liverpool, on the other hand, are unbeaten in their last six top-flight outings, although Klopp’s defence has been heavily criticised for their poor defensive record after conceding 24 goals in 21 games.
Speaking to Sky Sports News HQ after the weekend’s Premier League action, former Manchester City defender Mills explained why Manchester United are better placed than Liverpool to finish in the top four.
“They’ve got in the Mourinho run of [being] difficult to beat. They’re not going to lose games and they’re going to grind out results,” Mills said.
“Liverpool will be spectacular at times. Their movement going forward is exceptional. It’s brilliant to watch. But defensively, they’ve still got issues. The goalkeeper has had a few good games but he might cost them at some point. He’s not like De Gea, who is going to be superb throughout the whole season.
“Defensively, you’ve got to keep clean sheets. That’s something Manchester United will do. With the likes of Ibrahimovic up front, they can nick it even when they’re not playing well. I’m not sure Liverpool have that quality.”
