Pundit makes title prediction about Chelsea and Liverpool

Chris Sutton doesn't expect Liverpool to catch Chelsea in the title race

Chris Sutton has ruled out the possibility of Liverpool catching Chelsea in the Premier League title race.

The Reds missed the chance to move to within four points of Chelsea on Saturday afternoon after a 3-2 defeat by Swansea City at Anfield.

Fernando Llorente and Roberto Firmino both scored twice in the second half before Iceland international Gylfi Sigurdsson netted a winner with 14 minutes remaining.

Swansea’s 3-2 win was Liverpool’s first Premier League defeat of the season at Anfield and leaves the Reds’s seven points behind Antonio Conte’s side.

Chelsea, who finished 10th last season but are the favourites this term, have the chance to move 10 points clear of Liverpool if the west London outfit beat Premier League strugglers Hull City on Sunday afternoon.

Speaking to BT Sport Score after Liverpool’s 3-2 loss to Swansea City, ex-Chelsea striker Sutton poured cold water on the Merseyside outfit winning the title.

“For me [yes Liverpool are out of the race]. They’ve got too much to do. Chelsea would have to lose games and Liverpool would have to go on an unbelievable run. They just can’t put away the weaker teams,” Sutton said.

Liverpool finished in eighth place in the Premier League table last season.
