Pundit predicts when Arsene Wenger will quit as Arsenal manager
Johnny Giles is tipping Arsene Wenger to stand down as Arsenal manager in the summer
Johnny Giles believes the time will be right for Arsene Wenger to stand down as Arsenal manager at the end of the season.
The Gunners boss will be out of contract in the summer and Wenger hasn’t indicated whether he will sign a new deal with the north London side amid growing pressure surrounding his role over the past number of seasons.
Arsenal duo Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez haven’t signed new contracts with the north London side despite being negotiations since last year as Wenger’s future remains unclear at the three-time Premier League champions.
The Emirates outfit are in second place in the title race but eight points adrift of current leaders Chelsea after finishing as Premier League runners-up last term following Leicester City’s surprise title win.
Speaking to Irish radio station Newstalk about Wenger’s future, former Manchester United and Leeds United midfielder Giles said:
“He has been a great manager for Arsenal. The job he has done for Arsenal is fantastic.”
Giles added: “It might be time to go. There is talk of him going to PSG. At the end of the season regardless of what happens, it would be time for him go.”
Wenger signed five players in the summer transfer window in an attempt to close the gap on their title rivals.
