Pundit reacts to Bastian Schweinsteiger’s display in Man United’s 4-0 win over Wigan
Martin Keown singles out Bastian Schweinsteiger for praise after Manchester United's 4-0 win
Martin Keown heaped praise on Bastian Schweinsteiger after the Manchester United midfielder got on the score sheet in their 4-0 win against Wigan Athletic in the FA Cup on Sunday afternoon.
The former Germany international was handed his first start of the 2016-17 seasons in all competitions for the visit of the Latics in the fourth round of the FA Cup at Old Trafford.
Marouane Fellaini scored the opener in the first half before defender Chris Smalling and summer signing Henrikh Mkhitaryan put the tie out of reach of the visitors with second-half goals.
But there was still time for 32-year-old Schweinsteiger to score just his second Manchester United goal with nine minutes remaining at the Theatre of Dreams.
Speaking to BBC Sport after Manchester United’s 4-0 win against Wigan, former Arsenal defender Keown heaped praise on Schweinsteiger.
“Schweinsteiger improvises really well there,” Keown said.
“He is in a great area for scoring goals.”
Schweinsteiger moved to Manchester United in a £6.7m deal from Bundesliga outfit Bayern Munich in the 2015 summer transfer window under Mourinho’s predecessor Louis van Gaal.
