Pundit reveals how many games Man United must win to lift the title under Jose Mourinho
Pat Nevin explains what Manchester United must do to win the Premier League title this season
Manchester United need to win 16 of their final 18 games to win the Premier League title this season, according to Pat Nevin.
The Red Devils have forced their way back into title contention after a run of six successive Premier League victories ahead of the visit of bitter rivals Liverpool at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon.
Manchester United are in sixth place in the Premier League table and 10 points adrift of Chelsea but Antonio Conte’s side still have to make the trip to Old Trafford in the second half of the season.
Jose Mourinho took over the reins at the 20-time English champions after Louis van Gaal led the Red Devils to a disappointing fifth-placed finish last term.
Speaking to Irish radio station Newstalk, Nevin explained what Manchester United must do if the Red Devils harbour hopes of winning an unlikely 14th Premier League title this season.
“I’ve worked out who can and can’t win the league this season,” Nevin said.
“If it goes to normal planning so the average number of points needed to win the league in the last decade is 87 points, Manchester United need to win 16 of their last 18 games. Oh dear. It might be tough. They’re capable but it will be tough.”
Manchester United haven’t won the Premier League title since 2013 when Sir Alex Ferguson won his 13th and final top-flight crown.
