Pundit tells Antonio Conte what Jose Mourinho would do with Chelsea striker
Ray Parlour suggests what Jose Mourinho would have done with want-away Chelsea striker Diego Costa
Ray Parlour believes Jose Mourinho would overlook Diego Costa for his team selection for Chelsea’s home clash against Hull City on Sunday afternoon if the Portuguese coach was still in charge at Stamford Bridge.
The Spain international is reported to have fallen out with current manager Antonio Conte over interest from China in the 28-year-old.
Costa was left out of Conte’s squad for their 3-0 win against defending champions Leicester City last weekend, although the Blues manager cited a back injury.
The former Atletico Madrid striker has returned to first-team training at Cobham this week as the Blues prepare for the visit of Hull City on Sunday afternoon.
Discussing Costa’s situation at the Premier League leaders, former Arsenal midfielder Parlour attempted to second guess what Mourinho would do if the manager was still in charge at the west London club.
“I will be interested to see if he [Conte] puts him [Costa] in. He could keep the same team. It would show a big “I’m the manager” like Jose Mourinho would do. It’s Chelsea Football Club. He can’t muck about. There’s no-one bigger than the club. He could leave him on the bench,” Parlour told the Alan Brazil Up Front podcast.
Chelsea are sitting at the top of the Premier League table and seven points clear of second-placed Tottenham Hotspur.
