Pundit: This Arsenal defender gives Arsene Wenger’s side better chance in title race
Andy Hinchcliffe has been impressed with Shkodran Mustafi's impact at Arsenal
Shkodran Mustafi is capable of helping Arsenal to win the Premier League title this season, according to Andy Hinchcliffe.
The Germany international was one of five summer signings at the Emirates Stadium last year as Arsene Wenger looked to improve his defensive options in his Arsenal squad.
Mustafi has forged a solid partnership with France defender Laurent Koscielny in the 2016-17 season so far, and Arsenal haven’t lost a Premier League game with the German in their side.
Wenger recruited the former Everton defender in a £35m deal from La Liga side Valencia in the 2015 summer transfer window.
Speaking to Sky Sports News HQ, ex-Everton and Manchester City defender Hinchcliffe highlighted Mustafi’s positive impact on Arsenal since his summer transfer.
“Mustafi is an absolutely outstanding defender,” Hinchcliffe said.
“That’s why Arsenal bought him. We know what a good attacking team Arsenal are with all the creative players they have.
“Alexis Sanchez playing through the middle brings the best out of all their attacking midfielders.
“But defensively, that’s what wins you titles.
“I think the teams above Arsenal have got that but with Mustafi in that Arsenal back-line I think they have a much better chance.”
The Gunners came from behind to win 2-1 at Championship side Preston North End in the FA Cup third round on Saturday evening.
Arsenal dropped to fifth place in the Premier League table following a 3-3 draw at Bournemouth on Tuesday night.
